About the Hard Rock Cafe

The first Hard Rock Cafe (HRC) opened its doors to the public on June 14 1971 in London, founded by Isaac Tigrett and Peter Morton, two enterprising and music-loving Americans. They recognised that there was a need for a great American restaurant in London.

It was originally decorated in a very eclectic American theme. This all changed thanks to Eric Clapton! A regular to the Hard Rock, Eric gave us his guitar and asked us to hang it above his favourite spot at the bar to save the space for him! A short while after we received a guitar from Pete Townsend of The Who with a note saying ‘mine’s as good as his!’ and a great tradition was born!!!

We now have the largest Rock n Roll memorabilia in the world with over 75,000 pieces..some of which can be seen in HRC around the world!! Throughout its history, Hard Rock has been governed by a guiding service philosophy, ‘Love All –Serve All’.

Created as a place where all have always been welcome, regardless of age, sex or class; this unconditional welcoming hand, first extended by Messrs. Tigrett and Morton, continues today as integral to Hard Rock's present and future as it was to its beginnings.
