DESIGN A COASTER Blog Preview Image

The Kids Design a Rollercoaster competition is back! Last year we had so many incredible entries and it was fantastic to see so much creativity and passion from young Passholders.
This year you can enter into one of two categories in the “design a rollercoaster competition.”

1. Design a rollercoaster (digital)

This is the category for computer whizzes who wish to create their design in digital programmes like Planet Coaster or Minecraft.

Coaster Design

2. Design a rollercoaster (craft)

This is the category for children, (like last year’s winner Heath) who wish to create their coaster using incredible craft skills! This could include papier-mâché, LEGO® building, drawing, painting and so much more.

Top Tips

Try to include as much information as you can. You can do this by explaining over a voice-over/ presenting in a video, by writing down the information, or even by creating a short PowerPoint with images explaining the theming.

The design is very important, but so is the story and theming that goes with your ride! So, try to answer the following questions.

  • What inspired your design?
  • Is there a lore or backstory to your coaster?
  • What’s the theme of your coaster?
  • What type of soundtrack will your ride have?
  • What other theming elements might it have, and why?
  • Which theme park would your ride be added to?
  • Will there be special effects or actors around the rollercoaster?
  • What might you find in the queue-line of your rollercoaster?
