Extra Magic at Alton Towers Resort: The Corkscrew Track Repainting Event

What an unforgettable day it was as a handful of lucky Passholders stepped behind the scenes at Alton Towers Resort for a truly special event celebrating one of the park’s most iconic attractions: the legendary Corkscrew. 

The morning began with a warm welcome and a touch of excitement in the air as our winners gathered for an introduction from Alton Towers Resort Vice President Howard Ebsion. Over refreshments and friendly conversation, Passholders got an exclusive insight into the day ahead - a rare opportunity to leave their own mark on a piece of the Resort’s history: the Corkscrew track.  

From there, the group were also shown a fascinating mini-exhibition displaying historic artefacts and memorabilia from the days of the original Corkscrew coaster, alongside other nostalgic treasures from the Resort’s past. For many in attendance, it was a trip down memory lane - a reminder of just how much this classic attraction means to generations of visitors.

But the real highlight was yet to come. 

Throughout the day, each group of Passholders - the five competition winners and their chosen guests - took turns rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in. Paintbrushes in hand, they helped restore a section of the iconic Corkscrew track back to its original golden colour, bringing a little sparkle back to a true theme park legend. It was messy, hands-on, and incredibly fun - the kind of behind-the-scenes moment that most theme park fans only dream about.

And to make the day even more special, their contribution won’t be forgotten. Each participant will have their name proudly featured on a commemorative plaque, permanently recognising their role in helping preserve a piece of Alton Towers Resort history. Plus, they all went home with their own special Paintbrush Memento.
